We're LIVE! ChatGPT App Store is here

Here's every FREE resource you need to submit your first app

Hey builders,

It's official.

The ChatGPT App Store is now live.

Yesterday, OpenAI announced that developers can now submit apps for review and publication in ChatGPT. The app directory is discoverable directly at chatgpt.com/apps.

This isn't a beta. This isn't "coming soon." It's here.

And if you understand the size of this opportunity, you're probably already thinking about what to build.

Today I'm breaking down:

→ Why this is 140x bigger than the iPhone App Store launch
→ How submissions work (it's open now)
→ The complete resource hub we built to help you win

Let's dive in.

The Opportunity (By Numbers)

6 million vs 850 million people.

That's the difference between building for the iPhone App Store in 2009 and building for ChatGPT's App Store today.

In a recent interview, Anish Acharya makes a comparison that shows the size of this:

→ iPhone released in 2008
→ App Store launched in 2009
→ When it came out there was only 6 million iPhones in distribution
→ So 1 year post iPhone, your TAM as a mobile app developer was 6 million customers

Today, if you build using the ChatGPT Apps SDK, you've got an audience of +850 million weekly active users.

That's a 140x larger TAM from day one.

Major brands like Spotify, Adobe, Canva, Figma, Booking.com, and Zillow are already live. You can browse all of them at chatgpt.com/apps.

But unlike the iPhone App Store launch, most verticals still have zero competition.

Submissions Are Open

OpenAI just opened app submissions through the Developer Platform.

The key things to know:

→ Apps must provide functionality not natively supported by ChatGPT
→ Physical goods commerce is allowed now; digital goods monetization coming later
→ First approved apps rolling out in the new year

OpenAI has published submission guidelines, example apps, and a quickstart guide - you can access them here:
- Guidelines
- Submitting your app

But there's a lot to navigate.

That's why we built a complete resource hub.

Your Complete Playbook: appsonchatgpt.com

You're here because you want to actually build something.

We created appsonchatgpt.com as the central hub for everything you need to capitalize on this opportunity - from inspiration to submission.

Here's what's inside:

1. The Largest ChatGPT App Directory

Browse every major app already live in ChatGPT AND those not yet in the app store but are open-source.

→ See exactly what's working across commerce, creative, travel, and developer tools
→ Each app includes mockups, use cases, and implementation examples
→ Identify gaps in the market and spot opportunities nobody's built yet

We've organized everything by vertical:

→ Commerce → Business → Games → Experimental

2. The App Simulator

This is the killer feature.

You can actually test ChatGPT app concepts before building them.

→ See how apps appear in the chat window
→ Test user flows and interactions
→ Validate your concept without writing code
→ Understand discovery mechanics

At Ghost Team, we've used this to test 3 different app concepts before committing engineering time. It's saved us weeks of development on ideas that wouldn't have worked.

3. Resources & Learning

Here are the top videos and guides I’d recommend:

→ Full Guide: Building Apps in ChatGPT: How to Win on the Next Billion-User Platform

→ How to build your first ChatGPT app (non-technical guide)

Plus, I'm sharing weekly breakdowns on my YouTube channel - live builds, app teardowns, submission walkthroughs, and technical deep dives on what's actually working. Subscribe if you want to stay ahead of this.

4. The Builder Community

Join our Discord where builders are shipping apps right now.

→ Sharing real results from their apps
→ Troubleshooting technical challenges together
→ Getting early feedback on concepts before building
→ Finding co-builders and collaborators
→ Accessing insider knowledge on what OpenAI is prioritizing

We’re early. There is a lot of opportunity ahead of us. Very excited to see what you build and I hope these resources help.

As always, feel free to drop me a reply with feedback or questions about ChatGPT apps or any AI growth topics.

I read every reply!

Happy building,

Elliot
